Terms of Service
1Acceptance of these Terms
The Service is operated by Kieran Zhané ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you confirm that you accept these Terms and agree to comply with them. If you are using the Service on behalf of someone else (for example, a household member), you confirm you have authority to do so.
2What the Service is
The Solar Credit Calculator is a free, informational tool that produces an indicative estimate of the potential costs, savings and payback of installing rooftop solar (and, where relevant, battery storage) at a UK property, based on the details you provide and public datasets.
The Service does not sell solar equipment, provide installation, arrange finance, or act as a broker. It is currently in BETA and is provided for general guidance only.
3Who can use it
The Service is intended for residents of the United Kingdom aged 18 or over who are considering solar for a property in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. Some features (such as the EPC address look-up) are limited to England and Wales. The Service is not directed at children.
4Estimates only — not advice
The Service does not provide financial, investment, tax, legal, engineering or energy advice. Estimates depend on assumptions and on the accuracy of the information you enter, and real-world results will vary with your specific roof, equipment, installer, tariff and usage.
Before committing to any purchase or installation, you should obtain a written quotation and a survey from a suitably qualified, MCS-certified installer, and seek independent professional advice where appropriate. Any decision you make based on the Service is made at your own risk.
5Accuracy & data sources
The Service draws on third-party and public datasets — including PVGIS (European Commission JRC) solar irradiance, the GOV.UK Energy Performance Certificate register, GOV.UK/MCS cost data, and Ofgem tariff benchmarks. While we aim to use reliable, up-to-date sources, we do not guarantee that any data, assumption or calculation is accurate, complete or current.
Energy prices, government schemes (such as the Smart Export Guarantee), equipment costs and other inputs change over time and may differ from those used by the Service at any given moment.
6Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service lawfully and not to:
- use it in any way that breaches applicable law or regulation;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to, interfere with, damage or disrupt the Service, its servers, or any connected systems;
- scrape, harvest or systematically extract data, or place unreasonable load on the Service (including via automated tools), except as permitted by us in writing;
- misrepresent the Service's output as a formal quote, certification or professional advice; or
- copy, resell or commercially exploit the Service or its content without our permission.
We may suspend or restrict access to anyone who misuses the Service.
7Intellectual property
The Service, including its design, text, code, calculation methodology and branding, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. You may use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial purposes and may share your individual results. All other rights are reserved.
Underlying public datasets remain the property of their respective owners and are subject to their own licences and terms.
8Third-party services & links
The Service relies on, and may link to, third-party services and websites (for example, data providers and MCS-certified installers). We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, products, or practices of any third party. Any dealings you have with a third party (including any installer) are solely between you and that third party.
9Privacy & data
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy and our Data Retention & Deletion Policy, which explain what limited data we process and for how long. By using the Service you acknowledge those policies.
10Availability, changes & beta status
The Service is provided on an "as available" basis and is in active BETA. We may change, suspend, limit or discontinue any part of the Service — including features, assumptions and methodology — at any time and without notice. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time.
11Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service and all content and estimates are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of accuracy, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the estimates will meet your requirements or reflect actual outcomes.
12Limitation of liability
Subject to the above, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- the Service is a free tool, and we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, it or its estimates;
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, savings, opportunity, data or goodwill, whether or not foreseeable; and
- we are not responsible for decisions you make — including any purchase, installation or finance decision — based on the Service's output.
13Governing law & jurisdiction
These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Service, are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, although if you live elsewhere in the UK you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
14Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time (for example, as the Service evolves or the law changes). The "last updated" date above reflects the current version. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
